An interesting weekend in the Premier League saw Manchester United inch closer to a record 19th league title by beating Everton 1 – 0 at Old Trafford thanks  to a goal from Javier Hernandez.

Arsenal fans must be tearing their hair out as The Gunners yet again failed to make an inroads to the United’s lead by losing 2 -1 to Bolton, with a 90th minute winner from Tamir Cohen.

Chelsea look to be the only side that can stop United now and they were comprehensive in their 3 – 0 win over West Ham.  An added boost to Chelsea’s cause is that Fernando Torres scored his first goal for the club since his £50 million transfer.

The final Champions League spot is looking more likely now that it will go to Manchester City after Tottenham missed the chance to close the gap after only managing a 2 – 2 draw with West Brom.

Both clubs need to be wary of a resurgent Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish, who smashed Birmingham City 5 -0 thanks to a hat trick from Maxi Rodriguez.

The relegation battle is now entering a critical period.  Realistically anyone of six clubs could still go down.  It’s looking increasingly bleak for West Ham, but even though they are rock bottom they are still in touch with those around them.  Wolves could only manage a draw with Fulham, whilst Wigan complete the bottom three after they slipped back into trouble being thumped 4 – 2 by a Sunderland side who were desperate for a win themselves.
