Summer 2014 Transfers
With the World Cup now over and Germany walking away with the all-important World Cup trophy, the attention within England is edging back towards the Premier League. Already we have had some big names move to and from Premier League clubs. Throughout all leagues across the world there have been some big signings and here are a few players that have moved to a different club.
After the controversy of what happened to Luis Suarez at the world cup, he has moved from English Premier League side Liverpool to sign for a massive £75.0m. Some people may not think Suarez is worth this amount of money but the way he played in the premier league last season shows that he is an amazing talent. If Barcelona can keep him under control then Suarez could turn out to be a great signing. Due to his actions in the world cup, Suarez will still have to serve a four month ban for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.
David Luiz has been outstanding for Chelsea since moving in 2011 from Benfica. But his time now comes to show his class in France as Paris St Germain has completed a transfer for the defender for a fee of £40.0m. With his strengths of set pieces and pace, Luiz will be looking to make it a successful move from Chelsea as he looks to be partnered by Brazilian Defender Thiago Silva. Luiz will have to produce something going into PSG as his last two games for Brazil in the world cup lacked in all aspects.
Arsenal have snatched at the chance to sign one of the star players from this year’s World Cup as Alexis Sanchez joins them from Barcelona for a fee of £35.0m. The Chile international player has produced some spectacular football in the world cup showing why he could be considered as one of the best in his position. Not having a bad record for Barcelona, the only reason I can think that influenced the move was due to the signing of Luis Suarez. But it will be interesting to see how he will fit into Arsenal.
Despite not having the best world cup campaign this year, Diego Costa had a fantastic season at Atletico Madrid helping his side out to becoming champions of the Spanish Primera. Being the second top goal scorer in the league, Atletico Madrid will miss the strike power Costa has as he as completed a move to Chelsea for a fee of £32.0m. The English fans don’t look to happy with the move after his shocking performance in the world cup but it will be interesting to see how he shapes to the Premier League.
Another signing that was a shock to Premier League fans was a move for Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas used to be an Arsenal player before moving to Barcelona in 2011, but with a move back to the Premier League fans would be looking for Fabregas to move back to Arsenal. This is not the case however as Fabregas decided to join Chelsea for a fee of £30.0m. A great signing for Chelsea but it could be a costly loss for Arsenal.
Toni Kroos has shown that he was one of the best midfielders in the world with an amazing few seasons at Bayern Munich and helping his country to gain one of the best achievements being the World Cup. But Kroos decided it was the time to move to a different club and different league as he completed a move to Real Madrid for a fee of £25.0m just after the World Cup Final match. Despite all the players that Real Madrid has, Kroos should defiantly be one that is a starter for the club.
Before the World Cup, not many football fans knew about Enner Valencia as he spent last season playing for Pachuca in the Mexican League. The Ecuadorian who is 24 years old made 23 appearances for his club last season scoring 18 goals and with a great impact at the World Cup, West Ham United decided to snatch the young striker for a fee of £12.0m. This could be a great signing dependent on how Enner Valencia shapes up to the way English football is played.
There are still some big names flying around the transfer circle that are rumored to be happening with the likes of Mats Hummels looking at a move from Borussia Dortmund and James Rodriguez linked to be signing for Real Madrid. More signings will happen over the next few weeks with more big names moving between clubs.
