Ever since that crushing defeat against Chelsea last year that effectively ended the Reds hopes of lifting the Premier League title, Brendan Rodgers has found himself tripping up over his own words. From the arrogant way he dismissed Jose Mourinho’s ability to set up a team to defend, to the way that he claimed that Tottenham Hotspur should have challenged for the title based on the money they spent, the Liverpool manager has found himself in a rather trying position.

With Raheem Sterling’s controversial BBC interview earlier this week, we’ve taken a look back at some of the best, and worst, player interviews in recent history.
Sterling wanted to get his point across, claiming he is not a “money-grabbing 20-year old” after turning down Liverpool’s latest contract offer of £100,000 a week.
There has been a backlash from the Liverpool fans and management, who believe a player, should not be doing these interviews, especially at such a pivotal point of the season. Liverpool are vying for 4th in the Premier League, which would secure Champions League …

With England due to take on Lithuania in this month’s European qualifier, there has been much debate as to who should be in the squad and who should be left out.
The majority of the focus has been on the Premiership star of the moment, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who many believe should be definitely included within the squad, especially as he is currently the highest scoring English striker in the Premier League with 16 goals.
Other players who hoping to be a call up to the squad include, Ashley Young who has shown great improvement under Louis …

Many other European teams in countries such as Spain, Germany, France and Italy have winter breaks, with teams usually playing their last game before Christmas around the 15th December. They then get a break lasting roughly a month to enjoy the festive period and rest both their mind and body. Premier League teams have to play all through the Christmas period, often playing 3 games a week in freezing conditions.
High profile football influencers Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini have spoken out, saying the benefits a winter break could have. It’s well documented that come the later stages of the season …

Next weekend will see the FA Cup 6th round (quarter finals) take place, with the winner of each game booking a place in the semi-finals at Wembley.
There have been a lot of surprises throughout the cup, especially in the fourth round, which saw two of the big teams, Man City and Chelsea, go out to lower league sides. Swansea were also knocked out of the cup by lower league team Blackburn, whilst Spurs were surprisingly knocked out by bottom of the premier league Leicester. The means the only ‘top’ premier league teams left in the final eight …

This Sunday (8th Feb) saw the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations come to a spectacular end. Neither Ivory Coast nor Ghana could score in 90 minutes of the normal time, or in the added 30 minutes of extra time; meaning the game had to go to penalties. It was a thrilling penalty shoot-out with 17 goals in total, where eventually Ivory Coast claimed victory beating Ghana 9-8.
It had been 22 years since Ivory Coast had won this tournament, a tournament which was moved from its originally hosted location at the last minute, and was almost overshadowed by the violence occurring …

This weekend sees two derby/rival games as Arsenal take on Spurs and Everton host Liverpool.
Arsenal VS Tottenham

The North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham is known as one of the biggest rivalaries in English football and is always a fiery and fiercely combative derby.

With Liverpool crashing out of the league cup to Chelsea earlier this week, and considering they were only able to draw 0-0 against Bolton in the FA Cup, Brendan Rogers will have been relishing the prospect of  Sturridge back fit and playing.
The manager said in his pre-match media conference:
“He has looked outstanding in training, but we will give him another day. I will have a chat with him and overview the week, how everything has gone, but I can tell he is happy and feeling very strong in his own body. At this moment, he looks in top-class condition.”
Sturridge tweeted earlier …
